~ We take photographs as return tickets to the beautiful moments otherwise gone forever… Professional photography will allow you to travel first class ~
Newborn photography is very different from any other type of portraiture and it requires wide knowledge in the field and a unique set of skills. Professional photographers specializing in other areas of photography understand it very well and hired me for their own babies’ newborn sessions. I take pride in being thoroughly trained by the best specialists in our industry About Anna. I studied, and pursue continuing education in posing, newborn photography safety, and soothing techniques. Extensive training and experience working with newborns allow me to create timeless images you and your baby will treasure for decades and generations to come.
Parenting can be joy and parenting can be hard. It is the most important and the most difficult job you will ever have. Reward yourself with beautiful images of your kids that will remind you every day about the joy of parenting. These images will charge you with loving energy for years to come. And when your children grow up, these photos will allow you to remember how tiny they were and to relive the most beautiful moments time and again. I am here to make it happen for you.
As a mother of three children, I am very comfortable with babies and children of all ages. Ideally, a baby should be under 10-14 days to be truly “posable”, but technically a baby is a newborn until 6 weeks, and I can still produce very nice photos during this time, though the choice of poses narrows as time goes on.
Full newborn sessions are also available as a hybrid session, where the newborn part of the shoot takes place on one day and the family part is photographed on a different day at no additional charge. This approach is meant to avoid overstimulating the baby and to allow for a more relaxed and pleasant experience for the whole family. The hybrid option is particularly convenient for families who want the newborn’s siblings to participate in the newborn shoot.
Due to the unique nature of newborn photography, I recommend parents to schedule their session early in their pregnancy to reserve a spot. But if you didn’t, and the baby is already here, feel free to call or e-mail! I will do my best to fit you in.
Newborn sessions take place in my home studio, in Washington, DC, not far from the Cleveland Park Metro station. I have a whole collection of newborn props and sophisticated equipment that is only available in the studio.
I provide all the clothes, posing blankets, and wraps for your baby, so you don’t need to bring anything beyond what you would take to go to a doctor’s office or to see a friend. Baby wipes, diapers, breast pads, Boppy pillows with covers washed after every use, and fresh pacifiers are also available in the studio. Parents can just sit back and take a break they badly need during the first few weeks after their baby is born.
Newborns are always photographed in the morning, right before the second feeding, around 9:00-9:30 AM. I do a maximum of two-three newborn sessions per week, and my newborn clients are always the only client per day. This allows me to create the unhurried and calm atmosphere necessary for the baby to feel comfortable.
A few days before a scheduled session I send to clients my Newborn Session Prep Guide with detailed tips on getting ready for the session and a step by step description of my studio workflow.
