Anna Aslund

Washington DC Newborn Photographer

Member, Professional Photographers of America

Hi, I am Anna, a professional photographer trained and specializing in newborn and baby photography. I am based in north-west Washington, DC, not far from the Cleveland Park Metro station. My clients come from all over the Greater Washington area. I am originally from Russia and I’ve been living in Washington, DC, together with my Swedish husband and our three beautiful American children for over twenty years. Like any mother, I care about my kids more than anything else in the world. But beyond that, capturing the best possible photos and preserving those perfect moments of beauty and love for my clients is what makes my world turn around.

Parenting can be joy and parenting can be hard. Reward yourself with high-quality professional photos that will remind you every day of the joy of parenting. They will charge you with loving energy for years to come and will be the most precious gift to your kids when they grow up. I am here to make it happen for you.

Why do you need a serious professional for your newborn session?

Newborn photography is very different from any other type of portraiture and it requires wide knowledge in the field and a unique set of skills. I am dedicated to newborn photography safety. Having raised three kids, I am more than comfortable handling babies. Nevertheless, I have invested significant time, effort, and resources in thorough training focused specifically on newborn and baby photography. Some of the topics I have studied are anatomy, posing safety, temperature requirements, immunizations, and soothing techniques. My studio provides high end, handmade newborn outfits, wraps, props, and backdrops from the US, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Every item is thoroughly cleaned and washed after every session. Only the best service, equipment, and props are good enough for my clients.

Why professional printing products?

All my products come with corresponding digital files delivered on a custom USB. I also create for my clients a custom phone app with their favorite images. But digital files are not archival. Remember floppy disks? Where are the photos you took with your phone 4-5 years ago? With fast changing technology and electronic devices failing with time, professional archival quality prints, albums, and wall art are the only way to preserve your precious memories for generations to come.

I can create for you timeless heirloom products that will outlive many cell phones and USB drives.  Looking at your archival prints and albums you, your children, and one day, your grandchildren will be able to relive the most beautiful moments time and again.

Education and Credentials.

I went through formal training in portraiture and studio lighting at the Corcoran School of Art and Design at George Washington University. I also studied at the Studio Arts Department of the Smithsonian Associates and at the Capital Photography Center. I keep up with the latest research in the field, attending international conferences, and I travel all over the country for hands-on workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions with the best newborn and family photographers in the world:  Amy McDaniel of DewdropsPhotography,  Kristen Mackey of Son Kissed Photography, Ana Brandt, Sandra Hill, and Nicole Smith.

My portraiture work was featured in publications by Johns Hopkins University Press, Oxford University Press, and in “The New Times” magazine. In February 2017, I had the honor of having a solo photo exhibition, presented by the Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Estonia to the United Nations in New York, NY.

I am a member of PPA, Professional Photographers of America. I hold certification in newborn photography safety as a Qualified Newborn Photographer, QNP, with APNPI, Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International. My business is fully registered, licensed and insured.

I am looking forward to meeting you.
